Back pain accounts for 1/4 of all lost work and is the single most
common work-related injury. While almost everyone is at risk of back
injury, the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) has compiled a list
of the ten most back-dangerous jobs: The
main problems with the occupations above is they all include one or
more of the following which are very bad on the back, especially lower
back: prolonged periods of sitting, constant repetitive vibration,
heavy/continual lifting, awkward lifting and awkward positions. The
ACA suggests the following to limit back strain: maintain proper
posture; wear comfortable, low-heeled shoes; alternate tasks that use
different muscle groups; take periodic stretch breaks; and be sure to
lift with your knees, keep the object close to your body, and do not
twist when lifting. Source: American Chiropractic Association. October 13, 2004. |
